Announcement from the Office for Foreigners - Important information for Ukrainian citizens holding a PESEL number with UKR status
WarszawaAugust 10, 2026•Mazowiecki Urząd Wojewódzki

Foreigners who received a PESEL number with UKR status solely based on a declaration (without presenting a valid travel document) must present a valid travel document (passport) at the municipal office by August 31, 2026. This is particularly important for children under the age of 18, whose identity was previously confirmed based on photographs attached to the passports of their parents or guardians. If a foreigner has obtained a new passport after receiving the PESEL UKR number, they must also update it. The update is free of charge and does not change the PESEL number – only the document details are updated. If the foreigner fails to do this within the required timeframe, they will lose their UKR status and temporary protection in the territory of the Republic of Poland. Without a valid PESEL UKR number, the foreigner will not be able to obtain a CUKR residence card.
